This Saturday: Ninkasi Hosts Bicycle Powered Block Party

Local film maker Terry Holloway has teamed up with the UO Bike Program to host a bicycle powered block party at Ninkasi this weekend.  It will feature local bands and a screening of Holloway’s film “Pedal Power,” which documents last May’s Bicycle Music Festival. The event will also feature the UO Bike Program’s new bicycle powered LED projector, which is 40% more energy efficient than a regular projector.   Of course the sound will be bicycle powered as well.

Films, Movies, and Moving Pictures – and The February InMotion

People e-mail me a lot about upcoming events, so for this post I’m going to pretty much just re-post their e-mails because I have too much homework to do anything more than that.  If you can’t tell by the title of this post, the two events I’m sharing today involve bike related videos.   Of course this post will also include the City of Eugene’s wonderful InMotion newsletter, a great community resource that you can scroll through in embedded form after the jump.

Eugene Police Plan “Focused Enforcement Operation” Downtown, WBE provides a legal cycling tutorial

Location of the "Focused Enforcement Operation."

The Eugene Police Department (EPD) is planning a traffic “Focused Enforcement Operation” in downtown Eugene on  March 30th and 31st.  The location of the extra enforcement will be from 6th Ave. in the north to 18th Ave. in the south, and Lincoln St. in the west to Kincaid St. in the east. Click on the image to the right for a larger map of the area.

According to EPD  sources the goal of the operation will be to uniformly enforce the law for all users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and car drivers.  The reason I am giving this warning is to make sure that no one is given a citation due to lack of information and knowledge. Read on for details on what the police will be watching for, and how to avoid ending up on the wrong side of the law.
