Be an Ambassador, on a Bike

bike-along-river_2006 If you’ve always wanted to get paid to ride your bike, we have a job for you! The City of Eugene is hiring for Park Ambassador positions and the patrols will be “primarily on bicycle.”  It will be a full-time, temporary position only over the summer (approximately June 1st-September 8th) from 11:00am-7:00pm, Wednesday-Sunday.

“This position is designed to build positive relationships with community members and helps connect park users with the Recreation and Parks and Open Space Divisions in parks and trails along Eugene’s riverfront by providing public information and encouraging park appropriate behaviors. Does not act as a law enforcement agent but does promote the safety and security of park patrons, employees, facilities and grounds.”

Other information about the duties include:

“Provides the public with information about parks, trails and other facilities along Eugene’s riverfront corridor, from the Greenway Bridge in Maurie Jacobs Park to the I-5 Bridge in the Whilamut Natural Area, and in Washington-Jefferson Skatepark. Information includes park history, recreational activities, rentals, rules, hours and other general information.

Promotes enjoyment of the parks and voluntary compliance with City of Eugene park rules.

Reports repeat offenders and unlawful activities to Eugene Police Department.

Works with Eugene Police Department as needed and provides accurate verbal and written information.”

There’s more information on the City’s Craigslist posting. Here’s hoping the applicants take a Traffic Skills 101 course and are encouraged to not ride on the sidewalk unless absolutely necessary. Having the Eugene Police ride on the sidewalk is a criticism from many who feel it’s a bad representation of good behavior.
